Three storage methods for carrots

Carrots are nutritious and delicious. If you buy a large amount of carrots at one time, how to keep them fresh becomes a problem. This article introduces the storage methods of three kinds of carrots.
Ditch. The trench storage method is easy to operate, economical, and can meet the requirements of taproots for storage conditions, so it is still the most important storage method at present. The ditch used for ditch storage is generally 1.0-1.5 meters wide. If it is too wide, it will increase the influence of temperature and reduce the thermal insulation effect of the soil, making it difficult to maintain a stable low temperature in the ditch. The depth of the trench should be slightly deeper than the local frozen soil in winter. The depth of the storage ditch in Yuanping City, Shanxi Province is generally 1.0-1.2 meters.
Cellar and ventilated warehouse storage. Carrot storage and ventilated storage are commonly used methods in all parts of the north, with large storage capacity and convenient management. The carrots are scattered or stacked in the cellar or warehouse, with a height of 0.8-1.0 meters. The pile cannot be too high, otherwise it will rot due to the high temperature in the pile. In order to improve the effect of ventilation and heat dissipation, a ventilation tower can be installed every 1.5-2.0 meters. Generally do not move upside-down during storage. Check the upside-down piles according to the situation after the beginning of spring to remove sick carrots. Stacking wet sand and carrots in pits or warehouses has a better effect than stacking. This is because the former has better moisture retention than the latter, and it is easy to accumulate high concentrations of carbon dioxide. Since carrots are not cold-tolerant, the time to enter the cellar should be before the Chinese cabbage is stored to prevent frost. For storage in a ventilated warehouse, the humidity is often low, so humidification measures should be taken.
Sealed storage with film. In some areas, a semi-closed membrane method is used to store carrots. First, pile the carrots into a rectangular pile with a width of 1.0-1.2 meters, a height of 1.2-1.5 meters, and a length of 4-5 meters in the storage, and use a film tent to buckle them before budding in the early spring. Therefore, this method is also called semi-closed storage. Appropriately reduce the volume fraction of oxygen, increase the volume fraction of carbon dioxide, maintain a certain humidity, and have a good fresh-keeping effect. When stored until June and July of the next year, carrots still have bright skin and crisp texture. During the storage period, the account can be ventilated regularly, and if necessary, inspections and selections can be carried out to remove susceptible individuals.
